David Willcox, UKIFDA Driver of the Year.

The WP group are extremely proud to announce that our driver, David Willcox, has been awarded the UKIFDA Driver of the Year. The award was presented to David at the UKIFDA EXPO and Future Fuels Conference at Liverpool Exhibition Centre.

His strong work ethic, performance, and positive attitude have all seen him excel at WP Group. David has worked as an ADR/HGV driver until recently, when he was seconded to the position of planner within our Head Office in Southampton. Throughout his time here, both on the road and in the office, he’s supported many of our new recruits in their onboarding and demonstrated strong leadership to continuously improve our operations.

In an interview with David, I asked him how he felt about being nominated, and then going on to win the award. His first response was “Initially, I was overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions, I was pleased that my work has been noticed. I felt excitement at the thought of a trip to the UKIFDA Expo in Liverpool to meet industry colleagues.” He added that “being a driver is an incredible job, you manage your own time, you are working whist enjoying nature in all seasons, from your mobile office, and you are at the forefront of representing the company to our customers. You get to meet all sorts of people from all walks of life and see some amazing sites. The smile on an old lady’s face knowing she now has enough oil to keep her warm through the winter is a rewarding one!”

His line manager, Caroline Ellinor, said that “Dave consistently shows his support of the business by putting ideas forward, supporting his teammates, and generally going the extra mile. We have received several compliments regarding his work from both his customers and his peers.” She added “he is pro-company and a great leader for others to aspire to, delivering excellence in everything he does.”

Here at WP Group, we would like to congratulate David. He’s the epitome of what any fuel distribution company would want in an employee. He embodies all our company values, and we are lucky to have him within the business.
